Timothy Young joined the Heritage Health Team in 2020 and currently works as a school based Mental Health Therapist for the Lakeland School District located in Rathdrum, Idaho. Timothy has many years working in the mental health support field, child, adolescence, and their families. Timothy knew he wanted to be a therapist while working for a local residential treatment facility for adolescence. He understood their hurts, emotions and lived experiences. He understood their childhood trauma. With no resources available to him as a child, he wanted resources for this population.
Timothy specializes in supporting students and their families and finds Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Experiential Family Therapy to be successful. He believes a “big part” of change comes from “the top down”. He also enjoys facilitating family session at student’s home, as this give a real-life observation of the family system.
Timothy is originally from Modesto, California. He has lived in North Idaho for over twenty-five years. He loves all things outdoors and volunteers for his church. He enjoys family vacations. Timothy has competed in multiple half ironman’s and one full ironman. He rode his bike the entire length of Selkirk Loop (Canada and US).
Timothy earned two bachelor’s degrees from University Of Idaho and graduate degree from Whitworth University in their Marriage and Family Therapy program.
A fun fact about Timothy is he laughs to joke and laugh 90% of the time 100% of the time.
